Supported living, explained

## We provide the home. Your provider provides the support.

In supported living, people live in their own home rather than a care home, with care and support from a separate, specialist provider. Keeping housing and support apart gives people more choice and more independence.

The person

### Their home

Their own room and shared spaces, their routines and choices, in an ordinary house on an ordinary street.

The provider

### Care and support

A registered care or support organisation leases the house, supports the people living there and runs the service day to day.

### The building

We own the house, lease it to the provider, and look after the structure, roof, exterior and building insurance. We don't provide care or support.

### What is supported living?

A way of living where adults with support needs have their own home, often shared with a few others, and choose the support they receive. It is different from residential care, where housing and care come as one package from one organisation.

### How housing partnerships work

A landlord leases a suitable house to a provider, usually for several years. The provider is commissioned by the council or NHS to support the people who live there. Each party has a clear, separate role, set out in the lease.
